The Stomach Flu Hits the Sb Household

Seth came down with it on Friday, and Elijah on Sunday night. It's the first time either boy has gotten the stomach flu, so I guess we've been pretty lucky. Seth only threw up a couple times, so for him it was mainly just to keep him comfy and happy. Elijah threw up a lot on Monday and Tuesday morning, and would push the bucket away from his face every time and cry "I'm done" or "I don't wanna puke anymore!" He thought that if the bucket was in front of his face that then he'd puke, or something like that. Gotta love the logic of a 2 year old, but unfortunately for him it didn't work that way. We had to go through a few sheet changes on his bed. Tuesday afternoon he was sooo sleepy. I sat on the couch with him for a while, and he would wake up and talk to me, then fall asleep while talking to me. He wasn't awake for more than an hour total from Tuesday late morning through Wednesday morning, but he was awake and ready to go back to daycare on Wednesday. Dad got to stay home with Elijah while Mommy went to work and Seth went to daycare. Elijah did great at daycare, and then ended up getting sick around 11:00 on Wednesday-all over himself AND his bed. After we cleaned everything up he went straight back to sleep and was fine, so not sure what happened there. Hopefully we can go at least another 2 1/2 years before we have that back in our house again...

Happy 1st Birthday Seth!!

Seth Robert was born on Monday, January 14th at 7:50am. He weighed in at 6lbs 8oz and was 19 1/2" long.

At 1 year old, Seth now weighs 17lbs 10oz and is 28 3/4" long. He is still is 6-9 month clothes, though I think we'll switch him to 12 month clothes so he can get some use of the winter stuff before summer comes. He wears size 3 diapers and size 3 shoes. He walks everywhere (he's been walking almost 2 months now) and is starting to learn how to crawl up the stairs. He talks a little, and says Mama, Dada, Num-nums (sounds a lot like mama...), nigh-nigh, bottle (baba), and what sounds like Elijah (lie-ja). He eats pretty much anything, and often will eat as much if not more than Elijah. He adores his big brother, and tries to do whatever Elijah is doing. It's fun to watch him play with toys because he knows what most of them do, and he's even started some imaginary play. His newest thing is emptying plastic bags, then bringing the plastic bag over to the stairs (which is where we keep them).

Seth's Birth Story

Yep, here it is. If you don't want to read it, don't! :)

After six minutes in the hospital, Seth Robert was born on January 14 at 7:50am!! He was 6lbs, 8oz and 19 1/2".

I woke up around 4:20 on Monday morning thinking I might be having contractions, but they weren't painful so I slept in between them until about 5:20. Then they started to get too uncomfortable to lie in bed so I got up. I started timing them and they were about a minute long and 5 minutes apart. They still didn't hurt a lot, so I wandered around the house and packed a few things for the hospital since I hadn't packed my bag yet. At 6AM, I woke up Chris and decided to take a shower to see if the contractions would stop (I wasn't convinced I was in labor). Instead of stopping, they started to come every 2 minutes and became very painful. We had to get Elijah up and ready and finish packing, so it was 6:50 by the time we got out of the house. We dropped Elijah off at daycare and made the 50 mile trip to the hospital. On the way my contractions spaced out to every 5 minutes, so I figured we'd get there and they'd end up sending us home. We got to the hospital at 7:35, checked into the ER and finally got put in our room at 7:44. As soon as we got in the room I told the nurse I had to go to the bathroom. Her eyes got really big, and she told me to change into the gown and get in the bed. She ran out of the room and got the head nurse. As soon as I got in the bed, they checked me and couldn't feel any cervix. I had a contraction and started pushing-no one was ready yet and wasn't paying much attention. The first push broke my water. I yelled at them that I was pushing, and on the second push the baby's head came out. The nurse held his head because the resident was still getting ready. On the third push the rest of him came out, and that's when the doctor got in the room. I was admitted to the hospital about 15 minutes after he was born :) It was crazy, but fast!

Seth's First Santa Visit

Seth has been making strange big time the past month or so, so I wasn't really sure how the whole sitting on Santa's lap would go. I refuse to be one of those moms who puts their screaming child on Santa's lap just so they can get a picture, so I was fully prepared to walk away picture-less. Luckily, Seth was content to sit on Santa's lap long enough to get 6 different shots. None were fantastic, but they did the trick. After the last shot he decided he had enough and started squirming and whining, so I went and rescued Santa and was later glad I did-the poor guy had to sit with a screaming child on his lap while mom tried and tried to get just the perfect shot. Ugh.
Elijah was a different story. The day we saw Winnie the Pooh we stopped and waved to Santa, but that was as close as he would get. The next two times we were at the mall, Elijah asked to see Santa, and of course Santa wasn't there. Today while we waited in line he was so excited to see Santa that he kept trying to budge in line. Once we got up to Santa he wanted nothing to do with him (of course). Santa was awesome though, and asked if he could get a five and knuckles. Elijah was okay with that. I thought maybe Elijah could at least stand next to Santa, but no way! He freaked out every time I asked. But fives and knuckles-not a problem. In fact while I waited to pick out Seth's picture, Elijah ran up and down the ramp and gave Santa fives and knuckles several times, but got upset every time I asked if he could stand by Santa. Oh well, there's always next year...

Oh yeah-Elijah, Seth, and I got to hang out with my best friend from high school-Jenni! Elijah absolutely loved her, and talked to her instead of me. Every time we got to a traffic light, he would stay "tell me when it's green Jenni!" This is something usually reserved for Mommy, so he must think she's pretty special. He was bummed when we dropped her off at her mom's house-too cute! Jenni was a great sport and hung out with us while we did our shopping today-not an easy task! Mom's friend Megan often shops with us too-we're lucky to have such great friends to help us out!
